lounge chairs

20190725_130338.jpg

So a few weeks back my dad came over and helped me add a lattice fence on the side of my house and helped me arranged me a few trees and bird feeders. Since then I kinda got the wood working bug!So it started out that my son Linux and I decided to build a lounge chair. We looked on pinterest and found this sample plan so we went with it.Pic from original pinterest post which is a blog post on remodelaholic.com done by Amy over at hertoolbelt.com

It took us 2 days to finish the bench but that is because we started late with getting the wood and missing supplies. We are quite proud on how it turned out. Not bad for our first build if I can say so myself.:)

a few weeks back I was looking on marketplaces on Facebook and saw an add for a free dresserI had been wanting to make a vanity dresser for my teenage daughter, so I went ahead and scooped it up.Being I am a dyi addict I had a lot different projects I needed to work on so it spent the summer on my back porch.this week I had a family member visiting and we wanted to stay outside so I decided to tackle the desk.I started by using a bit of paint striper to remove some of the previous colors this desk has been over the years.I removed light turquoise, white and brown stain.after letting the paint striper do its thing I went ahead and got to standing.I LOVE sanding things, it’s an obsession of mines . I used 3 different Sanders to achieve a fabulous light wood grain.originally my daughter wanted it solid white so I filled the one crack and let that dry.I was however able to talk her into doing a white wash instead so I had to resand the top.We decided to do the inside of the drawers a bright blue to match a wall in her room.Several with was coat and a clear coat later and this is our finished product. As I was shopping the thrift stores for a vvanity mirror to put on her desk I stumbled upon this cute little bench that fit perfect.it did have an ugly fabric so I redid the ccushion ( using fabric from a cushion I purchased at Michael’s) and of course sanded it and patinted it to match the rest of the desk!the inside is backwards but oh well lesson learned for next time.

Crochet Superhero Inspired hat and fingerless gloves

hat and fingerless crochet set

Wow so as I was writing many post today so I can finally get some of my projects up on my blog I realized that I really do love to crochet for other people HAHAH.

At work we do a secret Santa exchange every year ( well this was the 2nd year) I was excited when I got match with this geek girl at work. I knew she likes video games and super heroes and such and when her favorite included red, yellow and black it was super easy to come up with this combo.

I saw this pattern on the Red Heart website a few years back and always wanted to make the hat but I could never figure out who would be willing to wear such a hat. until Fanny came along that is =-)

For the gloves I followed this simple pattern from The Hippy Hooker. It was quite a simple project to make and I think it turned out looking great.

Crochet men’s neck warmer

crochet neck warmer

So I have a few guys that I would like to make things to ( out of crochet of course) but it is always kindda tricky as well they don’t really want silly hats, scarves are like blah and I mostly suck at socks so when I found this pattern a few years back I knew that I would be able to use this for some type of guys presents.

=-)

I love how it looks very masculine especially with the decorative buttons. I just hope the person I am going to give this one to likes it!!!

Mermaid tail crochet blanket

crochet mermaid tail

A while back my friend asked me if I would like to crochet a mermaid tail blanket for my little niece. I am ALWAYS eager to get started on a new crochet project so I said YES!!!!

Off to Micheal’s I went to gat some yarn to get started on this project.

I purchase this pattern on Ravelry.com from Crochet by Jennifer. I must say it was pretty simple to follow and took no time at all to get this completed. I know it looks a bit small from the picture but my niece is only 2 so it could not be such a big blanket.

Girly Minion Purse

2015-12-14 22.54.36

I recently made a Minion purse for Operation Santa Clause. My friend wanted me to make him a girly minion purse for his step daughter.

I must admin I have never seen any Minion movies so I was not even sure if there is a girl. According to my daughter there is a purple Minion but no other girls.

In any case here is my take on the girly Minion.

Flower Crochet Purse

crochet flower purse

I recently made a Minion purse for Operation Santa Clause. I then decided to post the pick of it on Facebook and almost instantly I had an order for 2 more Minion purse and one for a Flower purse.

My instructions were pretty simple, the purse needed to be maroon and have a beige flower.

I set out to look for some inspiration on Pinterest . Here is my final approach to the purse. I chose to use the seed stitch to complete this purse as it does not produce too many holes. I really hope that my friends girlfriend likes her new purse.

Crochet Minion Purse

crochet minion purse

I recently signed up to be a secret Santa for a local child in need this Christmas season. When I receive my letter from my kid I was super excited to see she wanted anything to do with Minions. I had been seeing quite a few cute crochet things Minion all over Pinterest and wanted to make one but no one in my family is into the Minions so I was super excited to be able to make something for this little girl. So here is my Crochet Minion Purse

crochet minion purse

I found a really cute pattern for a minion purse on Atelier Handmade but honestly I didn’t want to purchase a pattern I would only use once. So I decided that I would just do my own.

This is really the first time that I crochet something without using a pattern and I must say I am quite happy on how it turned out.

I decided to make my purse using the Seed Stitch and it turned out great. I LOVE using this stitch becuase it givs your work a nice effect and being that it is 2 stitch in on it makes the bag tough and you do not need to line the bag with fabric. In the picture you will see that I added buttons on the side to make the straps adjustable. I will actually be modifying this tonight as it is making the purse too heavy and it makes it flip.  I will be adding a loop on both side where I will be ale to stick the strap trough and then close it with the button to adjust the length.

I am sooooo very happy on how this purse came out. I posted it on my Facebook page and within 2 hours I had 3 orders for one so that makes me even happier.

Thanks for taking the mine to read my rants.  Tata for now

My Dreamy Beach Bedroom

So I had some color swatches taped above my computer screens for approximately  7 months and I knew I wanted to try to paint a beach scene in my room as that is where I am the happiest.

2015-08-09 11.17.26

I searched Pinterest for some inspiration and stumbled upon this ombre painting pattern. I knew this would be perfect for my room makeover. I surprised myself one morning this summer and drove to the home improvement store and  purchased the paint.

I could not believe it that after waiting so many months I was finally going to do it.

I am SUPER excited of how the room turned out. Sure I did not get the technique exactly as it was shown but now I get to go to sleep and wake up at the beach. This makes me VERY happy. (Especially since I also recorded about 20 hours of beach sounds during my last trip to Cuba and I fall asleep to that every night)

Here are the before pictures

And Voila it is now done =-)

Homemade laundry detergent

A while back I stumbled homemade laundry detergent on Pinterest. This got me curious and I wanted to give that a shot but I was unable to fine washing soda here in Sherbrooke Quebec.

Imagine my surprise when I found washing soda on clearance at my grocery store =-)

It took me a while to finally decide to get the rest of the supplies to make it but last night I had ran out of laundry detergent and I decided I would give it a shot.

I was able to find all the other ingredients except the Fels-Naptha Bar so I went with regular Nivea soap called happy time.

This smells soooooooooooooooooo good OMG I just love it

I did 3 loads of laundry last night and it seems to clean very well and got some tough smells out of my young adult son.

I decided to go with this recipe I found on From The Woman Cave via Pinterest.
I did add an additional ingredient which is baking soda.

So here is the recipe breakdown.

3 cups Borax
3 Cups Washing Soda
3 Cups Baking Soda1 1/2 cups Oxi Clean( Wal-mart brand)
2 Cups Downy beads ( purple Lush)
3 bar Grated Nivea Happy Time Soap

I mixed all of the ingredients together and transferred into an air tight container.

This made about 14 cups of detergent and according to other bloggers you are to use 1 tablespoon per load of laundry so according to my calculations you should get 224 tablespoons / load which comes out to about .08¢ per load.
