Homemade laundry detergent

A while back I stumbled homemade laundry detergent on Pinterest. This got me curious and I wanted to give that a shot but I was unable to fine washing soda here in Sherbrooke Quebec.

Imagine my surprise when I found washing soda on clearance at my grocery store =-)

It took me a while to finally decide to get the rest of the supplies to make it but last night I had ran out of laundry detergent and I decided I would give it a shot.

I was able to find all the other ingredients except the Fels-Naptha Bar so I went with regular Nivea soap called happy time.

This smells soooooooooooooooooo good OMG I just love it

I did 3 loads of laundry last night and it seems to clean very well and got some tough smells out of my young adult son.

I decided to go with this recipe I found on From The Woman Cave via Pinterest.
I did add an additional ingredient which is baking soda.

So here is the recipe breakdown.

3 cups Borax
3 Cups Washing Soda
3 Cups Baking Soda1 1/2 cups Oxi Clean( Wal-mart brand)
2 Cups Downy beads ( purple Lush)
3 bar Grated Nivea Happy Time Soap

I mixed all of the ingredients together and transferred into an air tight container.

This made about 14 cups of detergent and according to other bloggers you are to use 1 tablespoon per load of laundry so according to my calculations you should get 224 tablespoons / load which comes out to about .08¢ per load.

Halloween Zombie Decorations

Halloween is my FAVORiTE Holiday!!

I LOVE everything about Halloween, the decoration, the preparations for candy bags and creating great costumes.

I have always gone a bit over the top with decorating and this year is no exception.

I do not watch The Walking Dead as I do not typically like zombie movies. I prefer real gore and spooky stuff. In any case I decided to go with a zombie theme this year.

You can view my Pinterest board to see what I have been doing since July to come up with new ideas. This post on Craftibilities.com on how to make zombies out of PVC piping was my main inspiration for my decor. I must say that Elena really made it look simple and I was eager to get started with my project. I hit a few snags along the way with getting the needed supplies in the suggested size but it turned out just fine in the end.

The decor would not of been complete without this great idea  found on Hauntforum via pinterest for some body bags.

And without any further ado here are the pics of my Halloween Decoration for 2014

Tardis Bathroom Remodel

Tardis Door

Last year I was introduced to Doctor Who and binged with all the newer episodes starting with the 9th Doctor.

I really enjoyed David Tennant and found him to be real easy to watch. I must admit I was sad to see him go and replaced by the 11th Doctor. It took me a little bit to get used to Matt Smith but has since became my favorite doctor. His playful ways and his whole attitude is just very enjoyable.

For mother’s day this year I told my kids that even tho I really enjoy candles and body spray I had enough of these things. So off my kids went shopping. My Son Linux surprised me with a lovely Doctor Who poster While I was super happy I had no where to really put it so it sat behind my desk rolled up until last weekend when I decided that it would be one of the focal point in my half bathroom/laundry room.

I decided I would pay tribute to Doctor Who and went with a Tardis door and Doctor Who decor. I am pretty happy with how it all turned out Here are the steps I took to get to where it is att. I do play on putting the 3 smaller picture on the wall behind the toilet and I will most likelt mount the poster to the wall. I would then like to draw the crack in space and time between the shelf and the picture. I did not need those shelves but decided I was tired of having clothes fall behind the washer and dryer so that is why they are there.

My Inspiration Wall

Inspirational Wall Done

This wall has been something I have wanted to work on for such a long time. I moved in a year ago and this wall was just gray. I then decided to decorate it during Halloween with this witch backdrop it was really cool but when I went to take the decal off it peeled all the paint

Solaris as a zombie

I then decided to make a bold statement in my house ( And invest in some good paint Sico Revolution) and the wall ended up looking like this. It stayed like that for a few months.

I knew I wanted to make this wall my focal point of the house and have been working on bits and ends for a makeover of it for a long time.  I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!! That I have finally finished all the pieces and that I got my wall up. I really wanted to get this done before my kids come back from their 2 month vacation with their dad so being they will get home on Saturday I just  made it in time.

Site Redesign in progress

For the past few years I was really into this site and posted regularly. Life happened and I had less and less time to work on it.

I changed host provider and lost all my old data in the process along with the customized template I had created.

I have been putting this site on hold for far too long in my opinion so I figured just get something back up there as I have quite a few projects I would like to share with you guys and I can work on making the rest pretty later. So in case you have been following me for a while know that a more pleasing overhaul will be coming in the next few weeks. In the mean time I hope that you enjoy your stay and remember I always LOVE to hear about your feedback.

Coffee Stirrer Art Work

2014-07-29 22.18.34

A while ago I was browsing art on Pinterest for my infamous green wall that I have been dying to do something with for the past year.

I have a vision and have been searching for just the right combination of art to display there. When I say this Coffee stirrer tutorial from makeanddogirl.com I KNEW I would NEED to incorporate this somehow in my wall.

I soon headed to the nearest Dollar King and got some supplies that were needed. ( I had most colors on hand but need the actual stirrer)

2014-07-27 15.18.37

Supplies needed:
Acrylic paint in your chosen colors
Coffee stirrers
Small paint brush
Wax Paper
Hot glue gun
Hot glue sticks
Picture frame of your choosing

Let’s get started!

Start off by laying down some wax paper ( I first tried newspaper and as the paint dried I needed to rip them off the news paper so I then tried the wax paper and they just slid right off)and than start painting your stirrer. There is no wrong or right way to do this. You will need to paint as much as needed to fill in your frame. You are in charge of the creativity aspect of what is pleasing to your eye here. After I painted my stirrers I let them dry for about 30 minutes and gave them a 2nd coat . I also let that dry for another 30 minutes. ( I am sure they were dry sooner but I was multitasking so this worked out for me)

I happen to have a frame that had a broken glass from another project I had done in the past and decided to put that frame to use. My frame as you can see had different sections so I decided to outline them on the cardboard for easier placement later.

I decided to do each outline completely before moving on to the other so I laid out my stirrers, trimmed them and hot glued them before moving on to the next. ( This is because I wanted to see the colors and keep them in that specific order. You can simply pick your colors and glue if you want.)

Once I was done with all these easy steps this is what I ended up with! I must say that I am VERY happy with the outcome of this project. It was so simple to make and I will get such a gratifying feeling every time I walk by my wall to know that I am the one who made that.
